For the year 2015, The Portrait Artists Group initiated by Vasudeo Kamath announced the “Bi-monthly Online Competition for Portrait Painting in outdoor Light.” In view of this year’s subject for the Competition, it was decided for our first program to be of a live demonstration of painting the portrait in outdoor light.
With the kind courtesy of ex- MLA Shri Ashok Jadhav, Pushpa Narsee Park, the scenic garden in Juhu Vile Parle Development Scheme, was made available by Vileparle Residents welfare Association.
In the presence of art lovers, aspiring artists and art students, Shri Vasudeo Kamath on his French Easel started with the charcoal drawing on the canvas. Capturing the fleeting light and creating the tonal symphony in oil colors, within just 45 minutes, the fading evening light on the Model’s face was perfectly portrayed with the scenic backdrop of the garden.
Being a public garden, the passersby were also curious and got involved in the spell of the performance of the Artist.
Shri Vasudeo Kamath explained to the artists, art students and aspiring artists the methods of capturing the fleeting light and completing the portrait in stipulated time. He also answered the queries of the common people gathered there. This has been one step in our efforts of bridging the gap between art and Society.
The Portrait Artists Group initiated by Vasudeo Kamath could do this demonstration with the PRESENCE OF Shri Paresh Daru, eminent Set Designer and ex Professor of Sir J J School of Arts to sit as a model; with the support of the staff of the park, Shri Yogesh Chandarana for supplying furniture and Mike system and all the viewers who specially were present to witness this unique event.
