Portrait Artists’ Group Annual Competition – Year 2019

For selecting finalist for PAG annual competition (for year 2019), we will organise different initiative and approach . Till now we used to call for monthly entries on our Facebook page , then last year we moved to portfolio submission of 11 portraits.

Here onwards PAG will conduct two events in a year to select finalists. Participants do not need to upload their entries on Facebook anymore but juries will select finalists from these two events where participants will have to paint from Live model.

In these two events which will be organised on birth or death anniversaries of two towering personalities with immense contribution to the field of visual arts. In these events will have live portrait painting sessions where participants will paint portraits from life and event will end with remembrance of these artist. 6th March 1475 is birthday of Michelangelo Buonarroti – painter, sculptor par excellence and 2nd October 1906 is death anniversary of Raja Ravi Varma was a celebrated Indian artist who is considered among the greatest painters in the history of Indian art.

Keeping significance of these two dates in mind ,PAG will organise these two events of live portrait paintings.

This year 6th March happens to be Wednesday hence to make it convenient for participants, art lovers this event will take place on 9th March 2019 (Saturday). 2nd October is holiday on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti making it convenient for all to attend.

The outline of these events is as follows.
• All artists will meet at locations in Mumbai , Pune , Kolhapur , Nashik , Aurangabad ( other cities can be included provided someone volunteers to organise event in the city) on 9th March 2019 (Michelangelo Birth anniversary ) and on 2nd October (Raja Ravi Varma death anniversary)
• To pay tribute these artist all participants will paint or sculpt from live model
• This is being one day event , Participants should ensure size , medium is selected so to complete the work within a day.
• PAG representative in the city will photograph all entries , collect participant details and submit it to PAG juries.These entries created in these events will only be considered for selecting finalist. No other entries will be solicited.
• The paintings, sculpture created will remain with artist.
• All artist should bring their own material.
• Any medium is welcome except for digital painting or photography
• In these events there should be one hour slide show or talk show towards end of the event to pay respect to these masters.
• Painting ,sculpture should be completed on the same day
• Paintings, sculpture completed with anybody’s assistance or guidance will not be considered as valid entry
• This competition is open for Indian Nationals of age 18 and above.
• The location in these cities should be decided by local artists, expenses if any should be contributed by local artists.
• Juries will decide 12 finalist post 2nd October event i.e. all entries of both the events will be considered .
• The Finals among 12 Selected finalists will be held towards end of 2019 or Jan 2020

Prizes for finals are 
1. Vasudev Kamath Grand Trophy and cash award of INR 75000/- for the best portrait
2. INR 50000/- First runner up
3. INR 25000/- Second runner up
4. INR 15000/- each for other remaining 9 finalists.

All past participants and winners except for grand prize winners can participate in the competition.

The local coordinator organising event in respective cities should inform PAG week so that PA representative can be arranged to attend the event. Our appeal to all artist to participate actively in these events to make this movement a success .
