Mission: “Portrait Artists’ Group” initiated by Vasudeo Kamath, is one movement to conserve, sustain and promote Representational Art and also to replenish its deserving Dignity by organizing various programs nationwide, to make aware Art Lovers and Art Connoisseurs, for the importance,understanding and appreciation of the real value of this Art and also to appreciate long term dedication and expertise of Artists who are committed relentlessly for this mission.
Vision & Scope of Work: This is intended through lectures, seminars, workshops, competitions, demonstrations, exhibitions and all such activities which can bring together the artists, critics, historians and experts of national or international stature with art lovers and art connoisseurs and people at large,to create awareness about the techniques and theories and the history and evolution of visual arts; and to showcase the contemporary status and development of Representational Art in India. This may further extend to organizing artists exchange program and also to evolve academic training to pursue the aspiring Artists.
Programs: “Portrait Artists’ Group” initiated by Vasudeo Kamath started with a Monthly Online Portrait Painting from Life Competition in November 2013. With an overwhelming response from the students, professionals and aspiring artists it continued till November 2014 and extended into a grand event of Inaugural program on December 30th and 31st, 2014 at Sir J J School of Arts, Mumbai with Mutual Portrait painting Demonstrations of the three contemporary Portrait Maestros viz., Shri Suhas Bahulkar, Shri Anil Naik and Shri Vasudeo Kamath and On the spot Portrait painting Competition amongst the monthly winners with slide and talk shows of the Maestros.
To bring out the talents of the Portrait Artists with “Bi- monthly Portrait from life competition in Outdoor Light “started in February, 2015. This challenge is accepted with enthusiasm by the artists. To encourage and guide the aspiring artists for working in outdoor light, a live demonstration of Portrait painting was organized in Pushpa Narsee Park on March 8, 2015, at Juhu Scheme ,Vile parle, Mumbai. Shri Vasudeo Kamath guided the artists about the methods of understanding and depicting the fast shifting natural light, which is of great help for artists. The program was a grand success.
Shri Vinodbhai Ghedia, Founder of Sanskrutik Kendra, Borivali invited The Portrait Artists Group and Sanskar Bharati for a full day Art Session with a noble vision to connect the society with art and artists, at their lush green jungle at Van Vihar , Borivali West
At 2.30 pm Committee Member of Sanskrutik Kendra welcome the viewers, announcing the program of Portrait Artists Group. The program of a live demonstration was carried out by Master Artist Shri Vijay Acharekar. Shri Acharekar selected a fellow Artist Shri Patil as a model. In the presence of committee members of Sanskrutik Kendra and local art lovers, aspiring artists and art students he started making the drawing with fan brush in his unique way. With fast and bold brushing he captured the effects of the light brimming through the tree in oil colors The fading evening light and game of shadows created on the Model’s face was perfectly portrayed by him. Shri Vasudeo Kamath and Gayatri Mehta continuously enlightened the viewers about the process, methods and the nuances of the art of Shri Vijay Acharekar while the Portrait got completed before stipulated time. Shri Kamath and Shri Acharekar also answered the queries of the people gathered there.
